The non verbal lasted for years for us. The hugs went out the window, and at times the respect. We did what you are and tried to not sweat the small stuff but still be therefor the rare moments when it seemed like they wanted to hang around, even if they werent talking. Jay talks and hugs again- lots, and Aaron is on his way back too now. Jay is 21 and Azz is 17. Loads of time. Mums who don't smother, but still hang around, like you, usually find out their boys love them..... to bits... and there is nothing quite like a real 'man hug' from your 6'2" son.... luv mon As mum of two grown boys…..I get it.
